Apple CEO Tim Cook recently embarked on his first official activity during his visit to Vietnam, starting with a leisurely stroll around the iconic Hoàn Kiếm Lake. Cook’s visit aims to engage with local developers, content creators, and explore educational settings, a decision driven by his admiration for the youthful energy of Vietnam’s tech-savvy generation. “I am amazed by the vibrancy and enthusiasm of the young people here,” remarked the CEO of Apple.

Dressed in a simple t-shirt, Tim Cook walked from the Hanoi Post Office along Đinh Tiên Hoàng Street, accompanied by a small group of seven and minimal security detail. The walk, lasting about 15 minutes at around 11:15 AM, drew curious glances and surprised reactions from passersby, unaccustomed to seeing the tech mogul in such an accessible setting.
On the morning of April 15th, Apple announced that Cook had arrived in Hanoi and expressed a reinforced commitment to Vietnam. This includes increasing investment in local suppliers and advancing new initiatives, such as supporting clean water facilities for schools. “There’s no place like Vietnam, a vibrant and beautiful country,” shared Cook, highlighting his excitement about the potential collaborations in the region.
Over the past year, Apple has shown a special favor towards the Vietnamese market, rolling out new services continuously. The company launched the Apple Store Online in May 2023 and introduced the Apple Pay service in August 2023. Recently, Apple has also started deploying detailed map photography vehicles from February to enhance the high-end features of Apple Maps in Vietnam. Furthermore, the company is expanding its workforce in the region, posting job openings for engineers specializing in machine learning and AI for Siri, tailored to meet the needs of the Vietnamese market.
Tim Cook, born in 1960, joined Apple in March 1998 as the Senior Vice President for Global Operations, later becoming the Executive Vice President before being appointed as CEO in August 2011. Under Cook’s leadership, Apple has seen a doubling in revenue and profits from 2011 to 2020, and by 2023, it became the first company worldwide to reach a market cap of $3 trillion. During his tenure, Apple has launched innovative products like the Apple Watch and the Vision Pro virtual reality glasses.
